Having lost the toss, we went straight into bat with little opportunity for a warm up (Woking is a tough place to get to in rush hour!). Old Woking fielded their strongest bowlers first putting Atiksh and Isaac to the test. Both held their ground admirably. Aussie and Alex followed with great comms and a few boundary efforts squeezing every last run out of their four overs. Luca and Casey took over, with Luca hitting three fours in his debut for FCC and Casey putting his own fair share of runs on the scoreboard. Louis and Alex finished the final four overs with great confidence taking the team to 288 runs for 7 wickets (I think).
It was then our turn to field. Atiksh opened, leading the way as Captain and setting the pace. In two subsequent overs, he took a further two wickets with one run out. Isaac made a cracking catch under a fair bit of pressure. Luca calmly took two wickets in his debut bowling over and Aussie secured two maiden overs and a wicket. Casey came close to a maiden over keeping things incredibly tight and Louis, following a stunning 12 overs as wicket keeper (dramatically catching a bail), took two wickets himself. Whilst Alex might have have been annoyed with himself at dropping a catch, he ran two of the Old Woking players out with great accuracy. The final score for Old Woking was 196 for 10 wickets.
Overall, a superb all round performance from our U11s. Their energy for a Thursday night game following a fairly long drive was admirable, as was the camaraderie on the pitch. Kudos to John and the coaching team for getting them to this point so early on in the season.
